Day 7, Friday October 17, 2014
Today we head to Positano with stops at a water buffalo farm and Paestum's Ancient Greek temples. Our final destination today is Positano. Dinner is on our own this evening.
Our first stop of the day was an organic water buffalo mozzarella farm for a tour and lunch. The buffalo on this farm entered the milking machine when they were ready at their own free. The milking machine read a chip in the cow's ear and automatically positioned the milker. Looked like the cows had it made with water spray cooling, massage and plenty of food.
The next stop was at Paestum, which is famous for its Greek temples. There are three temples here. They are the Temple of Ceres, Temple of Neptune and Temple of Hera. Paestum was once a seaport but the ocean is now about one mile away. The Greek city was estimated to have a population of about 13,000. It was originally conquered by Lucanians and later by the Romans who completely made it over and built the wall around the city. The Greek temples survived because they respected sacred areas. While many Christian churches were built on Roman temples, no Roman temple is built on a Greek temple.
After touring Paestum, we headed for Positano, our final destination of the day where we would check into the Hotel Savoia and have dinner on our own.
